ADVOCACY STRATEGY - EVALUATION - RESEARCH
Steve is an independent advocacy, research, policy and campaigns consultant based in London but with a global client base. He focussed on advising on strategy, carrying out evaluations, and undertaking research and writing, mainly in the field of international development, social change and civil society.
Working both jointly in small teams with other consultants and alone, he has recently undertaken consultancies for organisations including United Nations Development Programme, CIVICUS, Oxfam, Save the Children, the European Climate Foundation, the United Nations Millennium Campaign, UNICEF, WaterAid, the United Nations Population Fund, Transparency International, World Vision and Christian Aid, among many others. Steve's core skillset includes evaluation design, management and implementation, advocacy strategy formulation and advice, research, writing and editing, capacity building on advocacy and campaigning, organisational development and assessment, campaign management and risk management. He is a UK-government trained social survey interviewer. He has written and contributed to a diverse portfolio of papers, reports and articles on international development, civil society and political economy. This includes work on forging better links between civil society and the UN, on tax havens for ActionAid International, and on the developmental benefits of small-scale mining. Over many years he has been involved in several other British, European and international advocacy efforts and campaigns including on global trade rules, international worker’s rights, tax havens and international finance. Until relatively recently, Steve led a department of 25 people for global development agency ActionAid where, as director of policy and campaigns, he oversaw advocacy and research work in the UK on areas including international trade, corporate accountability and aid, increasing the organisation’s UK policy and campaigning profile and influence. He was also a key member of the Make Poverty History Campaign Co-ordination Team and co-chaired its Policy and Lobbying Working Group. Previous to that, he was with the campaigning group War on Want, where he held posts including director of campaigns and policy. |
